patient statement services

Patient statements and online payment

Patients should be billed for their share, not for the insurer’s discount. MedFlow sends statements for the balance left after insurance, and a way to pay it.

What goes on a statement

The date of service, what was billed, what insurance paid, the contractual adjustment, and the amount still owed. A copay that was collected at the visit is not billed again. A service the payer bundled is not moved onto the patient’s bill to make the numbers match.

Statements can be printed or sent as a link. The online payment page asks the patient to confirm date of birth before it shows the balance. Card payments run through Stripe when that account is connected.

How this fits a small front desk

The person at the desk should be able to say what a patient owes without opening five screens. The statement is that answer. Questions about a balance come back to us with the statement number, not as a stack of explanation-of-benefit letters.

We do not use statements to chase balances that are still in insurance review. If the claim is open with the payer, the patient is not billed for it yet.
